Mr. Marcel Valdez, has served on the La Pryor I.S.D. Board of trustees for over 23 years since being elected to the board in May 1997. Mr. Valdez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M University-College Station and holds valid Texas Educator Certificates in Vocational Education, Coordinated Vocational Agricultural Education(CVAE), Vocational Education for the handicapped(VEH) and vocational general agricultural mechanics. Mr. Valdez was the Agricultural Sciences Instructor and FFA advisor in the Knippa Independent School District from 1981 to 1985 and with the La Pryor Independent School District from 1985 to 1997.
Currently Mr.Valdez is retired from the Zavala County Extension Agent with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and has served in this capacity since 1997. Mr. Valdez has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Southwest Texas Junior College(1999-2006), The Zavala County Appraisal District Board, the Zavala Agricultural Exposition, Inc. Board of Directors, The Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association(VATAT)Board and The Texas County Agricultural Agents Association(TCAAA) Board of Directors.
During his tenure on the La Pryor I.S.D. board of Trustees Mr. Valdez presented workshop sessions at the Texas Association of School Boards/Texas Association of School Administrators(TASB/TASA) state conference, The Region I School Boards Association and Northeast Texas School Boards Association (Region 8). Mr. Valdez is an active member of the Texas Association of School Boards Advocacy Network whose effort is to enhance local school boards’ presence in the legislative process. The Network includes at least one legislative liaison representing every school district in Texas.
Mr. Valdez is married to Linda Valdez, an elementary teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience. They have one daughter Cecilia who is currently attending Southwest Texas Junior College. Mr. Valdez’s education philosophy is “I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating educational atmosphere in which to grow and mature academically, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.” Mr. Valdez’s term expires in November 2024.
